Cascadia Cup on the line tonight in Seattle for the Whitecaps

SEATTLE (NEWS1130) – There are just three games left in the Vancouver Whitecaps season and they are currently two points behind the Portland Timbers for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Whitecaps are in Seattle for a game against the Sounders tonight.

Vancouver has a game in hand on the idle Timbers, so the Caps can leap frog them with a victory.

The playoffs aren’t the only thing at stake for the Whitecaps this evening. The team can defend its Cascadia Cup title with a victory. A tie or Seattle victory would allow the Sounders to win the cup on their home field.

Vancouver Coach Carl Robinson says this game should be a classic.

“It is setup to be a fantastic game. Obviously the Cascadia Cup is on the line. They are in the driving position. They are scoring four goals past each team they seem to play so we might have to score five to maybe beat them. It will be a great game.”

Forward Erik Hurtado says he is treating the game at CenturyLink Field as a playoff game.

“It is going to be a tough game. Seattle is a really good team. It is a crazy atmosphere, a playoff atmosphere. That is what we are focusing on right now, trying to get that feeling of playing in playoffs and that is what it is in Seattle.”

Tonight’s kick off is at 7 p.m..
