How is Canucks president Trevor Linden adjusting to life in the front office?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – He was once the face of the franchise as player; now, Trevor Linden has come full circle and once again finds himself as the beacon of hope for Canucks fans.

So, how does the team’s president feel about trading in his skates for a suit and the view from the front office?

“It’s easier to be on the ice, actually, I think than wearing the suit. But I don’t have a choice right now,” says the native of Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Linden spent 20 years on the ice as a player, 17 of which were in a Canucks uniform over two separate stints.

He realizes fans are once again tying the team’s hopes to him. “I haven’t been this excited in a while. I felt the nerves the first game and I’m sure I’ll feel them tomorrow night.”

As for dealing with players, Linden says “that’s probably been the best part.”

“One of the things is I love the hockey aspect of it. When you get to be part of that, it’s pretty fortunate. So, I enjoy talking to them and catching up with them. Some of the younger players, just trying to be a mentor for them.”

Did he take anything from his playing days to the front office?

“I’ve always loved the game and was a student of the game,” he says. “There’s a whole other business side of things that you try to get your head around. That’s my challenge.”

The Canucks get back at it tomorrow night, in the season opener of Rogers Hockey Night in Canada, followed by the new Hometown Hockey on Sunday.
