VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Ryan Miller turned aside 25 shots and Linden Vey scored his first career NHL goal as the Canucks came from behind to beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in a shootout in Vancouver’s home opener at Rogers Arena.

The Canucks trailed by two goals on three separate occasions as the Oilers led 2-0, 3-1, and 4-2 before Vancouver rallied.

Vey had the lone goal in the third period, as he beat Viktor Fasth five-hole on the powerplay just past the seven-minute mark, which tied the game 4-4.

Daniel and Henrik Sedin dazzled in the overtime period, but were unable to find a way to beat Fasth for the game winner. The Canucks outshot Edmonton 5-0 in the extra session.

In the shootout, Miller stopped all three Oilers attempts, while Chris Higgins scored in the third round for Vancouver to provide the winner. Radim Vrbata and Nick Bonino were stopped by Fasth.

Vrbata and Bonino had goals in the second period for Vancouver, while Henrik Sedin scored in the final minute of the first period. Daniel drew three assists in the win, giving him four points on the season. It was his shot that Henrik deflected for Vancouver’s first goal of the game, and he also set up Vrbata on the powerplay, and Vey.

Vancouver is now 2-0 to start the season and will have an extended break before a rematch with the Oilers on Friday night in Edmonton.
