EDMONTON, AB (NEWS1130) – Ryan Miller made 28 saves for his first shutout with Vancouver, and the Sedins and Radim Vrbata combined for six points as the Canucks improved to 3-0-0 with a 2-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Miller now has 30 shutouts in his career. He had to be terrific in the first period and early in the third when the Oilers were pressing hard.

The Canucks got on the board with a little over four minutes to go in the second period. Henrik Sedin cycled the puck down low for brother Daniel, who then wrapped around the net and fed a cross-crease pass to Radim Vrbata for an easy goal past Ben Scrivens. It was Vrbata’s third goal of the young season.

The score remained ahead 1-0 until the dying seconds of the third period when Daniel Sedin potted a goal into the empty net. Henrik and Vrbata earned the assists as the top line had two points a piece.

Vancouver played the final 40 minutes with only five defenseman. Ryan Stanton did not come back after the first period with an undisclosed injury. The Canucks also lost Dan Hamhuis for a brief period in the second period, as he was cut by a high-stick, but returned to the game wearing a cage.

The Canucks are 3-0 to start a season for the first time since 1999. Their best start to a season was when they went 4-0 in 1992.

Vancouver will be right back in action on Saturday night when it hosts the Tampa Bay Lightning at Rogers Arena.
