The Canucks try and remain perfect when they take on the Oilers tonight

EDMONTON (NEWS1130) – After a six day break the Vancouver Canucks are finally back in action tonight. The team is taking on the Edmonton Oilers in Alberta. Vancouver is looking to start the season 3-0, while Edmonton is still searching for its first win after dropping its first four games.

Vancouver’s Nick Bonino says it has been strange not playing for so long.

“It is a little bit weird not playing for a week, but I think we can take advantage of the rest we’ve had. We had a good week of practice. Edmonton is obviously in game shape as they have played a lot, but hopefully the rest is to our advantage.”

Goalie Ryan Miller says despite the Oilers early season struggles, he expects Edmonton to have a strong showing tonight.

“I expect a team to create a lot as usual. They put the puck in the net when they play. They have just had a little trouble in games of keeping it out of their net. I expect a high powered offence and I expect them to keep getting better.”

For the Oilers, BC native Ryan Nugent-Hopkins returns to the lineup after missing two games with an injury. He says the Oilers aren’t that far away from turning things around.

“We are still feeling pretty good. We know what we can accomplish. We still feel we are playing some pretty good hockey, we just have some mistakes and we give up too many opportunities in the high chance zones and once we limit those we will be alright.”

The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. You can watch it on Sportsnet Pacific.

The Canucks won’t have much of a break following the game. They play tomorrow against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Rogers Arena. The team released a statement today saying Vancouver’s long-time sellout streak is expected to end. It dates back to November 2002, a span of 474 games.
