Judge Dee’s Chinatown Haunted House opens

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a frightening experience based on the stories of China’s Sherlock Holmes. Judge Dee’s Chinatown Haunted House at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden opens Tuesday night.

Judge Dee was a famous detective, the Sherlock Holmes of China, who lived in the Tang Dynasty China. The tour lasts 12 minutes and people are placed into groups of 8 to 10. The groups run every two minutes.

Haunted house goers will make use of all of their senses; people will see and hear stories about murder, torture, and odd spirits.

Things can get physical says David Newham, the Co-Artistic Director with the Seven Tyrants Theatre. “Along the way the way they’re going to come across scary characters that might be lurking around the corner or reaching out to touch or grab you. So, we invite absolutely everybody who is interested in that type of experience to come on down.”

He says it’s only for adults so leave the kids at home. “Those viewers at home who are maybe familiar with Judge Dee will know that the stories are especially violent, especially bloody, not exactly the stuff of bedtime stories but indeed the perfect material for an adult themed haunted house.”

Tours runs nightly until Halloween (except October 27) at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden in Chinatown in Vancouver. Organizers encourage people to purchase tickets in advance.
