NDP takes government to task over leaky roof at BC Place

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – The NDP voiced its displeasure with BC Place and its leaky roof at the legislature today.

“Each year the government continues to throw good money after bad,” NDP PavCo critic David Eby said. “It was $10-million last year, it will be millions again this year on BC Place.”

Some fans at BC Place have experienced quite the soaking thanks to the stadium’s leaky roof, and Eby let the government have it for, in his words, “hiding” the roof’s problems.

“BC Place is turning into a lemon for this government,” Eby said. “They lost $10-million last year, they’re missing their attendance targets by 20 per cent. They’re missing their revenue targets by 18 per cent.”

The NDP is also upset that PavCo’s president picked up a $100,000 bonus despite the stadium’s deficiencies.

The retractable roof was completed in 2011.
