Canucks road trip continues against the St. Louis Blues

ST. LOUIS (NEWS1130) – Vancouver will try and bounce back tonight after two straight losses. The Canucks will battle the St. Louis Blues in game two of a three game road trip. The Canucks struggled against a speedy Dallas Stars team in Tuesday’s 6-3 loss.

Coach Willie Desjardins says his team has to be better if they want to win tonight.

“We can’t give up the odd number rushes. We have to make sure we are coming back in to our own end. We have to be better all over the ice defensively.

Daniel Sedin echoes his coach, saying Vancouver is giving up too many quality scoring chances.

“We haven’t been giving up too many chances, but the chances we are giving up have been really good chances. That is the one thing we have to cut down on. It has been mistakes by us, but I think they are easy things to correct and we will certainly do that tonight.”

The Blues are off to a slow start to the season with only two wins in five games, but Desjardins says with skilled forwards such as David Backes, TJ Oshie and Jaden Schwartz you have to be weary.

“Whenever you play St. Louis, they are a strong, physical team, they will play you hard and you have to know that. As a result you have to be prepared to battle in your one-on-ones, because that is what they are good at. They are a really good team on the puck and you have to be ready to match that. We have talked about that and we have to be prepared to play physical and play hard.”

It will be a milestone for Alex Edler tonight. The Swedish defenceman will play in his 500th NHL game. Daniel Sedin has played with Edler from day 1 with the Canucks and Sedin says his countryman has really matured both on and off the ice.

“He has done the same things as me and Hank. We came in to the league and were quiet for the first few years. We didn’t say too much, but he has taken a lot of steps in that department as well. He is one of the leaders in this room. He is a smart guy and a heck of a player.”

Ryan Miller returns to the Vancouver net after being shelled for five goals on 13 shots against Dallas on Tuesday.

The puck drops at 5 p.m.. You can watch it on Sportsnet Vancouver Hockey. Listen for game updates every 10 minutes on the fives.
