Canucks head home after loss to Avalanche

DENVER, CO (NEWS1130) – Henrik Sedin scored just 10 seconds into the game, but Colorado scored six of the final seven goals as the Avalanche stomped the Canucks 7-3 on Friday night. Vancouver dropped two of three games on its road trip.

Henrik opened the scoring after Colorado goalie Semyon Varlamov gave the puck away to Radim Vrbata behind his own net. Vrbata passed up the boards to Daniel Sedin, who set up Henrik in the slot to make it 1-0. It was the second night in a row that the Canucks scored in the first minute of their game. Chris Higgins scored early in St. Louis.

The Avalanche took control of the game after the early hiccup and tied it up with a little over five minutes to go in the first period. Shortly after a Vancouver penalty expired, Jarome Iginla roofed a backhander for his first goal with Colorado.

The Canucks took the lead back late in the first period on an Alex Burrows goal, which was originally waved off for a kicking motion, but was overturned after video review.

Colorado tied the game again early in the second period, as Jamie McGinn scored to make it 2-2, and then with the Avalanche on a five-on-three powerplay they took their first lead of the game on an Erik Johnson tally.

The Avs brought the one-goal advantage into the third period, but quickly increased it to three goals when Daniel Briere and Matt Duchene scored a little over three minutes apart.

Vancouver got back within two goals with Daniel Sedin’s goal with 9:51 to play, but Gabriel Landeskog scored to restore the three-goal cushion for Colorado, and then Iginla added his second goal of the game in the final minute.

Eddie Lack was under siege all night in the Canucks’ crease. Despite allowing seven goals, Lack still made 41 saves in the defeat.

The Canucks started the trip with a big loss in Dallas on Tuesday night, and then responded to beat the Blues 4-1 in St. Louis on Thursday. Vancouver will now return home to host the Washington Capitals on Sunday.
