CBC and Jian Ghomeshi part ways, radio host plans to sue CBC

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Jian Ghomeshi says the CBC fired him because of concerns the broadcaster had about his private sex life becoming public.

He posted a note on his Facebook page hours after the CBC announced it was severing ties with Ghomeshi because of “information” it had received about the “Q” radio show host.

Ghomeshi says he was facing what he calls a campaign of “false allegations pursued by a jilted ex girlfriend and a freelance writer.”

He writes that he has always been interested in a variety of sexual activities, but only ones that are mutually agreed upon and consensual.

Ghomeshi says the CBC received no formal complaints and that he lost his job based on “a campaign of vengeance.”

Ghomeshi has instructed his lawyers to sue the public broadcaster after the broadcaster announced it was parting ways with him.

A statement for Toronto law firm Dentons Canada LLP says the action will claim general and punitive damages for breach of confidence and bad faith.

The statement also says Ghomeshi will commence a grievance for reinstatement with the CBC under his collective agreement.

A CBC spokesman said information had come to the broadcaster’s attention that precluded it from continuing its relationship with Ghomeshi.

On Friday the CBC had said Ghomeshi would take a hiatus for an “undetermined” amount of time to deal with “personal issues.”
