Three people hospitalized in North Vancouver after taking GHB

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Three people were taken to Lions Gate Hospital after intentionally taking GHB before going out for drinks.

The RCMP is now warning people on the dangers of taking illegal drugs.

Cpl. Richard De Jong says GHB, or Gamma-Hydroxy Butyric, is a powerful, rapidly acting central nervous system depressant which is much stronger than alcohol.

“Emergency services attended a local bar here and the response to the report of a woman who had collapsed after ingesting, allegedly, GHB. So, what happened at that point is, once our personnel were on scene two more people were also in medical distress with the same symptoms.”

He adds the situation was serious enough that ventilators were needed to help the patients breathe.

Two women and a man were released from the hospital after a night of observation.
