Vancouverites with pets urged to keep them inside on halloween

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The City of Vancouver’s Animal Control Services is reminding people to keep an eye on their furry friends tomorrow night while they’re partying the night away.

Animals have heightened senses, and what may seem like fun to us may startle our pets.

“The loud noises that come with costume parties, decorations, fireworks and strangers knocking at your door can cause your pets to nervous or scared at halloween.” says Steve Simmonds, manager of Animal Control Services. “This puts your pets at risk of running away, getting, or worst, getting injured by a vehicle or pedestrian traffic.”

To prevent the worst from happening if your pet runs away, Simmonds suggests a ID tags on a collar, to help bring the pets back to their owners.

“We ask that you keep your pets at home during Halloween, and please make sure they’re wearing collars with ID tags just incase they do get away. It’s very difficult for us at animal services to find an owner without proper identification or an animal license.”

97% of animals with a tag that go missing are returned to their owners. If your animal is lost, you can call 311 and report the details.
