Hope to get half a million dollars from Kinder Morgan if expansion goes ahead

HOPE (NEWS1130) – The District of Hope will get a half million dollars from Kinder Morgan, if the proposed Trans Mountain pipeline expansion goes ahead, thanks to a community benefit agreement.

Mayor Susan Johnston says the money will go towards upgrading Hope Community Recreation Park.

“We wanted something that would continue to keep on giving in the future. We polled the community and that seems to be the consensus, that that’s a great place for that money to go.”

“We’ve got bike trails, we have our skate park that needs to be revamped — all kinds of proposals. We’re looking to put an off-leash dog park in that area. It will only get bigger, better,” she says.

Johnston tells us this agreement doesn’t in any way imply that Hope supports the pipeline. But she says if it’s going to happen, the District might as well get some beneft.
