Wind warning issued for Metro Vancouver

Update: The rainfall warning is over in Metro Vancouver, but the wind warning remains in effect.

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s going to a soggy day in Metro Vancouver.

A rainfall warning has been issued, with another 30 to 40 mm expected across the region.

Heavy downpours may cause flash floods and water pooling on the roads. You should also watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

The rain is expected to ease off this evening.

A windfall warning has also been issued, with winds gusting up to 90 km/h at times.

There have been a few lightning strikes early this morning.

Up to 87 mm of rain causing a couple of creeks to burst their banks in North Vancouver late Monday. Homes had to be evacuated and Argyle Secondary was closed the following day.

The District of North Vancouver is taking precautions by checking culverts and trash traps on creeks. People are being asked to help by clearing catch basins and storm drains around their property.

Staff are on standby and ready to respond to any problems. Sandbags are also prepared.
