Remembrance Day ceremonies in the Lower Mainland

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – Members of the public are invited to honour Canada’s veterans and pay respects at a number of Remembrance Day ceremonies that are being held at various locations around the Lower Mainland.

Thousands will pause for a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on Tuesday to remember our fallen soldiers.

Burnaby:

In North Burnaby at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #148 Confederation Park Cenotaph, the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. from the Safeway parking lot at 4440 Hastings Street. The ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m.
In South Burnaby at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #83 Bonsor Park Cenotaph at Imperial & Nelson, the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. from Legion #83 on Grimmer Street. That ceremony starts at 10:45 a.m.

Coquitlam:

The community celebrations, hosted by the Coquitlam Legion (Branch 263), include: Remembrance Day Service at Como Lake Middle School Auditorium on King Albert Avenue at 10 a.m., followed by a parade from Como Lake Middle School to Coquitlam’s cenotaph on Veterans Way at 10:30 a.m. At 11:00 a.m. the service will commence at the cenotaph. There will be a parade from the cenotaph to Coquitlam’s Legion Hall at Nelson and Ridgeway after the service.

Delta:

The Royal Canadian Legion Delta Branch 61 is organizing Ladner’s parade and ceremony. The parade will commence at 10:15 a.m. from the Legion at 4896 Delta Street and travel to the cenotaph at Ladner Memorial Park for the 10:45 a.m. ceremony. Following the ceremony, veterans and adults are invited to attend the Legion. Parking is available both near the Legion and Ladner Memorial Park.

Langley:

Langley Legion Branch 21 invites the public the attend the Remembrance Day ceremony and parade taking place on Tuesday, November 11th, 2014 in Langley City. The parade will begin at 10:25 a.m. followed by the ceremony in Douglas Park, at the cenotaph site, starting promptly at 11:00 a.m.

Maple Ridge:

The ceremony begins at 10:30 am with the Remembrance Day Parade from the Legion building to the cenotaph located in Memorial Peace Park just off of 224 Street.

New Westminster:

Participants are requested to assemble at either location by 9:30 am. The doors to the Armouries will be closed at 9:45 am. Both sites are wheelchair and stroller friendly and both sites accept those people wishing to attend with their sight assistant dogs. The memorial address will be delivered by Brigadier-General R.R.E. MacKenzie, CD. Following the ceremonies in the Armouries, there will be a parade to the Cenotaph at the front of City Hall where two minutes of silence will be observed at 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by the wreath laying ceremony and the march past on Royal Avenue.

North Vancouver:

Remembrance Day parade and service at the Victoria Park Cenotaph in North Vancouver at 10:30 a.m. Remembrance Day water service will be offshore in Cates Park in North Vancouver at 11 a.m.

Port Coquitlam:

An indoor service will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Wilson Centre, located at 2150 Wilson Avenue. Following the Wilson Centre Service, veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #133 will lead a parade from the Wilson Centre along Wilson Avenue to Shaughnessy Street to the Cenotaph services at Veterans Park.

Richmond:

The public is invited to the Remembrance Day service held at the cenotaph on the east side of Richmond City Hall, located at 6911 No. 3 Road. A military parade will start marching at 10:20 a.m., the official ceremonies at the City Hall cenotaph will begin at 10:40 a.m. and there will be two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m., which will be followed by wreath-laying. Following the service, a free public reception will be held inside the City Hall Galleria.

Surrey:

Bring your family to take part in the annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cloverdale cenotaph next door to the Surrey Museum and the Surrey Archives, located at 17710 – 56A Avenue. It starts at 9:30 a.m.

Vancouver:

There will be a Generation to Generation Ceremony and lighting of the cauldron at 8:30 a.m. at Jack Poole Plaza at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The ceremony and parade at Victory Square starts at 9:45 a.m., parade routelocated at West Hastings Street between Cambie and Hamilton. At 10:00 a.m. veterans, military marching units and bands will be led to Victory Square by the Vancouver Flag Party. West Vancouver:

The Remembrance Day parade and service will be on Marine Drive at 20th in West Vancouver from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
