Many people heading into the woods unprepared for the weather: NSR

NORTH SHORE (NEWS1130) – There’s plenty of bright sunshine, but don’t let it fool you if you’re hitting the local trails.

North Shore Rescue team leader Mike Danks says too many people are heading out unprepared.

“They’re wearing shorts and running shoes, and no backpack…. People need to keep mind that it is winter conditions on the mountain,” he tells us.

“There is ice on the trails. It’s very slippery,” he adds. “The sun is setting a lot earlier; as soon as that sun goes down, it’s getting very cold out there. People need to be prepared with appropriate clothing. Layering is really key.”

BC Hydro says the early cold snap has also dramatically bumped up power consumption right across the province. The peak was last night, 5-6 p.m.
