Lions season ends in a blowout

MONTREAL,QUE (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions certainly struggled to close the regular season, but not many could have predicted Sunday’s outcome, as the Montreal Alouettes cruised past the Leos 50-17 to advance to the eastern final next week in Hamilton against the Tiger-Cats. The Lions trailed by as many as 47 points before scoring a pair of garbage time touchdowns.

The Lions didn’t help themselves, taking 15 penalties for over 100 yards in the game. Kevin Glenn was pulled in the third quarter in favour of Travis Partridge due to ineffective play. Glenn finished the day 6/18 for just 64 yards and two interceptions. Partridge was 6/9 for 30 yards and a late touchdown pass in mop-up duty.

Shawn Gore and Ernest Jackson had late touchdowns and Paul McCallum had a field goal for the Lions in the losing effort.

As for Montreal, back-up quarterback Tanner Marsh ran in two touchdowns. Brandon Rutley and Chris Rainey each ran one in and Jerald Brown scored on a fumble recovery as the Alouettes put up their first playoff win in four tries since their last Grey Cup win in 2010.

B.C. ended its season with only two wins in it’s last eight games, including one-sided losses to Edmonton and Calgary to end the regular season.
