Kinder Morgan protesters remain on Burnaby Mountain

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – A deadline for pipeline protesters to get out of Kinder Morgan’s way on Burnaby Mountain has come and gone.

The group could be heard chanting “we won’t move” as police read the court order at 4 p.m.

Dozens have set up tents along the proposed route for the pipeline.

“As long as our Squamish friends decide to stay here, we’re with them,” says one woman.

The protesters say they’re not worried about police breaking down the camp because it’s not their land.

Hundreds of other people gathered with signs that read “peace, not pipelines!” “Save the humans, not pipelines!”

Burnaby RCMP says it can’t disclose its plan or what will happen to the tents.

Kinder Morgan is trying to complete survey work that involves boring two small holes and then drilling 250 metres into the mountain.

It was granted a court injunction last Friday to have the demonstrators forced to move out of their way.

The Kinder Morgan project would see the amount of oil sent from Alberta to BC tripled.
