Canucks clash with old rival Chicago

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks meet the Chicago Blackhawks for the first time this season at Rogers Arena. (6:30pm, Sportsnet Pacific)

Vancouver had an optional skate Sunday morning, and Alex Burrows did not take that option. He will not play tonight, while an official update still has not been given on Dan Hamhuis.

“He’s out for awhile for sure, but we’re waiting to get an update.” Willie Dejardins said this morning at his press conference.

As for the Canucks’ opponent, Chicago rolled through the Oilers Saturday by a 7-1 count. While the Blackhawks struggled a bit early in the year, the same old weapons, headlined by Jonathan Toews present a tough task for Willie Dejardins’ club.

“I expect us to be good. We’ve had a day off. There’s no reason that we won’t be ready to play. They’re (Chicago) a real good team. They’re going to come and play hard like they always do. They have a lot of different weapons, too. You can’t manage it with just one line, or one set of defense. They’re too deep. Everybody has to be good tonight.” Dejardins said.

Chicago has won three straight games, and five of six overall.

The other major subplot Sunday night is Daniel Sedin – appearing in his 1,000th career NHL game, something he addressed Saturday.

“It’ll be emotional, for sure. To play this long for this franchise, it means a lot to you. We’ve been through lots of ups and downs. We’ve been through everything.”

“It’s such an accomplishment. It’s such a hard league to play in. There’s so many factors that go into (playing). I can’t imagine for him, can’t imagine the thoughts he’s feeling and thinking. From my side, it’s just a great accomplishment. It says so much about him as a person, and how he plays the game.” Willie Dejardins noted.

Ryan Miller is expected to start for the Canucks opposite Corey Crawford.
