Hansen’s hat-trick powers Canucks over Blackhawks

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Jannik Hansen tallied his first career hat-trick, giving him five goals in the past three games, and Bo Horvat had three assists, as the Canucks earned a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at Rogers Arena.

Hansen had just 11 goals in 71 games last season. His run of goals gives him eight this season through only 21 games.

Hansen opened the scoring in the final seconds of a Canucks powerplay in the first period. Horvat tipped a pass to Hansen in the slot, and he beat Corey Crawford with a quick shot.

The Blackhawks had the only goal in the second period. Kris Versteeg deflected a Duncan Keith point shot past Ryan Miller on the powerplay to make it 1-1.

Hansen put the Canucks ahead for good 6:24 into the third period. Derek Dorsett sent a puck towards the slot, and the Dane got his stick on it to tip it past Crawford.

Radim Vrbata extended the Canucks lead late in the third period. He banged in a loose rebound for his 10th goal of the season to make it 3-1. Hansen added an empty netter to seal the victory.

Horvat had gone his first six NHL games without recording a point, but has tallied four of them in the past two games. He was also Vancouver’s top face-off man against Chicago as he won 80 per cent of the draws he took.

Daniel Sedin was honoured in a pre-game ceremony as he played the 1000th game in his NHL career. He was held off the scoresheet, but his brother Henrik drew an assist on the Vrbata goal.

Miller made 24 saves to record the victory.

The Canucks wrap-up their three game homestand on Tuesday night as they’ll host Cory Schneider and the New Jersey Devils.
