Smart Set stores closing down

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A national chain of women’s wear stores is being shut down.

Smart Set is owned by Reitmans, which says the 107 locations will be closed in the next 12 to 18 months. The Montreal-based firm says about 76 of them will be converted to its other brands.

Reitmans has more than 800 stores under its name and Penningtons, Dalmys, Antels, Cactus, Addition Elle, RW & Co. and Thyme Maternity.

CEO Jeremy Reitman says the Smart Set closures will be made “despite some improvements in performance.”

Smart Set represents about 10 per cent of the company’s annual sales.
