Grey Cup festivities begin today in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Grey Cup festivities kick off today, which means downtown Vancouver is about to get even busier.

Football fans won’t just be making noise at BC Place. The Street Festival and Family Zone will be at Jack Poole Plaza, while the CFL Awards will be given out at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

Jamie Pitblado with the Grey Cup Festival notes there are also the team parties. “Riderville, the Lions Den, Atlantic Schooners… will all be at the Convention Centre. Everyone’s got a party. Edmonton’s up at the Wall Centre. Calgary, of course, is at the Bourbon.”

Pitblado expects downtown crowds to peak Saturday morning for the parade. “We expect 100,000-plus.”

He isn’t too worried about the forecast. “If we have a little bit of drizzle, we’ll still be here; the partners will still be active and the music will still be playing.”

The big game between Calgary and Hamilton is Sunday afternoon with around 4,000 tickets still available.
