St. Paul’s Hospital beams with Lights of Hope

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver is awash in twinkling lights, thanks to the Lights of Hope being turned on at St. Paul’s Hospital Thursday night.

It’s the 17th year the hospital has transformed itself to commemorate the season and to raise money for its foundation.

This year, the hospital’s foundation hopes to raise $2.5 million dollars for new equipment including an MRI machine.

The foundation’s Dick Vollet says the hospital is covered in 10 kilometres of LED lights.

“A lot of the materials are donated very graciously by a lot of the companies whose stars you see on the front of the hospital. We have the electrical students from BCIT wiring this thing for us. You know, we have huge community support,” he says.

Vollet says he’s happy to see the nearby Wall Centre and Century Plaza also add to the atmosphere by putting up their own light displays.

You can check out Lights of Hope at St. Paul’s Hospital until January 12th, 2015.
