OPCC decides on harsher punishment for VPD Constable Taylor Robinson

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) The Vancouver police officer caught on camera pushing a disabled woman to the ground has been given a longer suspension.

Constable Taylor Robinson will be suspended six days for neglect of duty and for abuse of authority.

The adjudicator said the fact that Robinson pushed Sandy Davidsen was obvious from video of what happened. Davidsen suffers from multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. Her lawyer Doug King says she had hoped for a stronger punishment. “She views kind of anything less than ten days as pretty light and I kind of have to agree with her. I don’t think she’s going to be too happy to hear.”

He’s surprised Robinson didn’t bother to show up at the hearing. “Certainly, you wouldn’t see that kind of allowance being given in a criminal case if somebody’s being sentenced. It’s kind of unclear why in a public hearing like this we would allow this person not to be present.”

Robinson was originally given a two-day suspension, but the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner found that to be too lenient.
