Canucks winning streak ends in Detroit

DETROIT,MI (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks saw its three game winning streak come to an end Sunday in Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk scored twice, including the empty-net goal as the Canucks pressed for the tie in a 5-3 Detroit victory.

The Red Wings have now won four straight games, while the Canucks will head to Washington for a Tuesday clash with Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.

Sunday’s game got off to an odd start, as a bay of lights at the aging Joe Louis Arena went out, halting play for 25 minutes.

When play resumed, it was the Red Wings who kept the pressure up in the Canucks zone. Niklas Kronwall opened the scoring with a hard shot over the shoulder of Ryan Miller on the power play. The Wings would take advantage on another Canuck penalty, as Gustav Nyquist finished off a pretty three way passing play to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead after one period.

The two teams traded goals in the second, as Linden Vey found the back of the net on a powerplay. Pavel Datsyuk was given credit for the Detroit goal to make it 3-1. Miller couldn’t quite keep out a rolling backhander during a scramble in front of the Vancouver net.

Shawn Matthias and Linden Vey scored for Vancouver in the third period as the teams exchanged markers, but it was Danny Dekeyser’s point shot that rolled through Miller to stand as the game winner. Datsyuk added the empty net goal in the final minute as the Canucks put on some major pressure with the extra-attacker.

Following tuesday’s game in Washington, the Canucks will travel to Pittsburgh on December 4th, and Toronto December 6th.
