VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – TransLink has opened the doors to its new SeaBus: the “Burrard Otter II.”
It took its first trip from North Vancouver to Downtown Vancouver today.
Parliamentary Secretary Andrew Saxton says it’ll help a lot of people who commute to and from the North shore.
“Six million people a year travel the SeaBus between Vancouver and the North Shore. This is going to be a more fuel-efficient SeaBus. It’s going to be 20 per cent less greenhouse gas emissions. We’ve got bigger windows, bigger doors.”
He adds it’s a roomy vessel that’s more comfortable for passengers.
The one it’s replacing was built in the mid 1970s.
Almost all of the $21 million spent on the new SeaBus comes from the federal government. TransLink’s contribution was $2 million.
