City of Surrey sued for unpaid construction costs related to new City Hall

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A contractor in Surrey is suing the city for millions of dollars.

Ron Fettback with Western Pacific Enterprises says he launched the $6-million lawsuit, claiming the city hasn’t paid its bill for changes it made during the construction of the new City Hall.

“I was directed by Surrey to do millions of dollars worth of work on change directives that it said it would pay me for and they haven’t paid me. They haven’t followed a process that is fair and reasonable.”

He says $100,000 of that was spent on a mayors gala, which involved crews putting a banquet tent in the Atrium.

“That means we have to bypass circuits and get lights temporarily working. They told us they would pay for it, they signed all the vouchers. They told us to work the overtime, they signed all the vouchers. I never got paid for it. She had her party, ate her cake, drank her champagne and I got stuck with the bill.

Fettback says city officials refuse to speak with him.

He says he feels the city doesn’t have the money to pay the bill and that’s why it’s reluctant.
