The Canucks east coast road trip concludes in Montreal

By

MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – The Canucks will try and cap their longest road trip of the season with a victory tonight against the Montreal Canadiens.

After losing back-to-back games on the weekend, Vancouver will try and bounce back and avoid its first three-game losing streak of the season.

Coach Willie Desjardins says ending trips on a win are good for morale.

“If you can find a win, it would be a great way to end it. You are going to get these stretches, and if you are fortunate enough to make the playoffs you will get it again, so it is a good way for your team to learn and be prepared, because in the end you have to find a way to win every night. It doens’t matter what the situation is.”

Defenceman Yannick Weber will play in Montreal for the first time since leaving the Canadiens to sign with Vancouver last year. He says after losses to Toronto and Ottawa, the Canucks need to be better.

“I think the last two games our breakouts weren’t good. We couldn’t really establish a forecheck. We want to help Miller as much as possible. We didn’t give him much help on this trip so far. We played really well at the beginning of the trip, so we just have to get back to that.”

Before the game, the Canadiens will hold a tribute for the late great Jean Beliveau, who died last week at the age of 83. Brad Richardson says he will soak it all in.

“It will be emotional for a lot of people tonight. It is a sad time, but also a celebration of his life. It will be a pretty special ceremony and it is pretty cool to be a part of it and remember what he did for the game. I don’t think we will have any trouble feeding off of that.”

Ryan Miller is expected to be back between the pipes for the Canucks tonight, while BC native Carey Price will likely be in net for the Habs.

The puck drops at 4:30 p.m. You can watch it on Sportsnet Pacific. Listen for game updates every 10 minutes on the fives.
