Backlash on social media to Sony pulling ‘The Interview’

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After Sony pulled the plug on The Interview, cancelling the movie’s Christmas Day release in response to violent threats linked to North Korea, the backlash from Hollywood and many others has been pouring out on social media.

A sampling from Twitter this morning nets you comments from stars, politicians, journalists, and everyday people — from funny to cutting to downright angry.

Some say the US has lost its first cyber war after major theatre chains refused to show the movie, responding to bomb threats from hackers who’ve been attacking Sony over the made-in Vancouver movie.

One Texas theatre has responded to the threats with a free screening of Team America: World Police instead of The Interview, a movie that mercilessly makes fun of North Korea and Kim Jong Il, the father and predecessor of the country’s current dictator Kim Jong Un.

We’re just trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation,” James Wallace, manager at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Dallas/Fort Worth location, tells The Hollywood Reporter.

American flags and other patriotic items will be given out by theatre employees.
