Big gain in October BC retail sales

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s retail sales in October posted their second-biggest gain of the year.

Statistics Canada says the province’s retailers had sales totalling $5.6 billion, 6.9 per cent higher than a year earlier. The only increases bigger than that were in April and June at 7.1 per cent.

October’s retail sales were almost unchanged from the previous month.

Nationwide, retail sales rose 4.9 per cent from a year earlier to $42.8 billion.

On a month-over-month basis, sales were little changed as gains in appliances overcame a less-than-one-per-cent decrease in auto sales.
