Not a great start to the ski season on the local hills

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The rough start to the season for the local mountains drags on.

While Cypress and Grouse have a little snow, Mount Seymour hasn’t even opened yet.

With students out of class for the holidays, it’s usually a busy time of year — and a crucial one for business — but many runs on our local hills are still green or brown.

Emmalee Brunt with Mount Seymour says the weather just isn’t cooperating.

“We would love to be open right now. Spring break is a very big time for us, as well, if we can open a little bit later in the season. We’re just staying positive,” says Brunt.

“The report over the next couple weeks is looking promising. Temperatures are dipping down below zero and there’s lots of precipitation. So, we’re very hopeful that we’ll get lots of snow and we’ll be open the second that we can.”

She adds to try to keep everyone employed, they are finding work in other areas on the mountain for part-time staff.
