Who are better Christmas shoppers: men or women?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We are spending more, arguing more, and procrastinating more when it comes to holiday shopping!

With just days to go until “rip and tear” time, a new poll finds almost two-thirds of Canadians still aren’t done buying their Christmas gifts.

The CIBC survey finds so far this holiday season, Canadians have spent an average $678 buying gifts, but those who have not wrapped up shopping by this time are twice as likely to blow their budget.

But who is better at getting that last-minute shopping done: men or women?

News1130 ventured into the jam-packed malls as we head into the last weekend before Christmas to find out (This isn’t part of the poll… we just thought we’d stir up the Christmas pot a little).

“Men! Because they get it done and they get it done quick and they get it done right,” one confident male shopper says.

“Women, because they actually pay attention to what you want,” counters another guy, chuckling.

“It’s women,” laughs a female shopper.

“We pay attention to all the details when it comes to getting something for somebody. My boyfriend doesn’t know anything!” she tells News1130. “He’s going to hate me for saying that.”

Canadians aged 18-34 are the biggest procrastinators, with 71 per cent saying they have not finished their shopping. Canadians aged 55 and over are the best prepared for the holidays, with only 55 per cent saying they need to hit the malls this weekend.
