VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Ryan Miller was brilliant in goal for Vancouver, making 29 saves, and the Canucks scored twice on the powerplay as they earned a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Henrik Sedin had two goals for Vancouver.

After a goalless first period, the Canucks opened the scoring on an early powerplay in the second. Alex Edler blasted a one-timer from the point and it beat Jimmy Howard for his fourth goal of the season.

Detroit pressed hard for the equalizer in the third period, but Miller came up big, making 11 of his 29 saves. Shortly past the midway mark, Radim Vrbata scored on his own rebound on another powerplay to make it 2-0. The goal was Vrbata’s team-leading 16th of the season.

The Red Wings finally got on the board with 3:30 to play in regulation. Tomas Tatar jumped off the bench and stepped into a slapshot from the high-slot and it beat a screened Miller to break his shutout bid.

The Canucks put the game out of reach with a pair of goals into the empty net, both of which came off the stick of Henrik Sedin. The first of Henrik’s two goals was a milestone marker, as it gave him 200 in his career.

Vancouver is 1-1 to begin its five-game homestand. Up next is a match-up with the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
