Eddie Lack gets the start when the Canucks host the Islanders tonight

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The last time the New York Islanders visited Rogers Arena, they scored seven 3rd period goals on the way to a 7-4 win over Vancouver. The embarrassing loss was nearly ten months ago, but the Canucks have not forgot and will look to exact a measure of revenge tonight.

Eddie Lack will get the start tonight and he was in net for six of the seven goals.

“I was using this game as motivation in the summer. That was the biggest game I wanted back from last year and it feels really good to get another shot at it,” says Lack. “It has obviously been a little while, so I am excited to play. I have been feeling good in practice and working very hard. I am very excited to get back in net.”

Coach Willie Desjardins is trying to spark his team’s play at even strength and has shuffled the lines ahead of the game. Alex Burrows moves up to join the Sedin’s on the first line, and he says he is ready for the opportunity.

“Whatever works best for our team, I’ll do. We are trying to generate more offence 5-on-5. The coaching staff wanted to switch it up a little bit and that is fine with me. We have to go out there, work hard tonight and at the end of the day we want to get the win.”

Radim Vrbata falls to the second line with Nick Bonino and Chris Higgins.

The Canucks will have a tough time with the high-flying Islanders. New York is having a breakthrough season and has compiled a 26-12-1 record. John Tavares leads the team in points, and Desjardins says the Canucks will have to shut him down in order to win.

“He has worked at his game. You have to give him a lot of credit for the level he has taken it to. Those type of players are so dangerous because you can contain them, and then you let them go for five seconds and it is in the back of your net. We have to do it as a team. We have to make sure we are smart. The best thing is if we have the puck, he is not going to be as dangerous.”

The puck drops at 7 p.m. You can watch it on Sportsnet Pacific. Listen for game updates every 10 minutes on the fives.
