Canucks close out the homestand against Calgary

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks are looking to get back in the win column, and close out a five game homestand on a positive note against the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena. (7pm, CBC)

Taking points from the Flames has become habit for the Canucks – Vancouver has beaten Calgary in eight straight games, including a 3-2 overtime victory over the Flames at Rogers Arena back on December 20th.

Both teams enter tonight’s play after losses to the Florida Panthers. The Canucks looked sluggish against Roberto Luongo’s new team in a 3-1 defeat, while the Flames dropped a 6-5 decision to the Panthers on Friday in Calgary.

Vancouver is focused on getting back to the way they know they can play.

“We’ve played some pretty good teams. It’s not like we had a bad performance.” Head coach Willie Dejardins said this morning after an optional skate.

“We would have liked to be better. Teams do that to you sometimes, where they just don’t let you be as good as you want to be. I think Luongo made some big saves in that game. Given that, we lost, and we want to find a way to get back on the winning trail.”

Chris Higgins is expected to play for Vancouver this evening after missing the Panthers game with the flu.

“I’m feeling better today. Hopefully it stays away for the rest of the day.” Higgins said after skating Saturday morning.

“It would be nice to finish up the homestand with a win and feel good about ourselves. Hopefully there’s a better feeling in the room tonight after the game.” Higgins added.

After tonight, the Canucks embark on a road trip that begins on Tuesday night in Nashville against the Predators.
