Canucks offense breaks out in win over Flyers

PHILADELPHIA, PA (NEWS1130) – Ryan Miller returned to the crease after a two-game absence and Vancouver got goals from four different players as the Canucks beat the Flyers 4-0 to snap a three-game losing skid.

Miller missed the past two starts with an illness. He looked very sharp in his return, as he stopped all 30 shots he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season.

The Canucks took the lead 6:35 into the first period on a pretty goal from Nick Bonino. Bonino spun with the puck as he crossed the blue-line before snapping a shot past Ray Emery into the top corner for his 10th goal of the season.

Vancouver doubled the lead on its first powerplay of the game. Daniel Sedin put a shot towards the net from the left point and Henrik Sedin got a stick on the puck to deflect it over Emery.

The visitors continued to apply pressure to start the second period, which resulted in an early powerplay. Radim Vrbata wristed home his team-leading 17th goal of the season at the 1:21 mark to chase Emery from the net. He allowed three goals on 12 shots.

Rob Zepp took over in the Flyers’ crease, but he didn’t fare much better. Just 22 seconds after the Vrbata goal, Jannik Hansen found himself in alone on Zepp, and fired in his 10th goal of the season.

Miller was at his busiest during the third period as the Canucks protected the four-goal lead. Philadelphia outshot Vancouver 12-3 over the final 20 minutes, but Miller was very good to keep the puck out.

Vancouver scored more goals in the win than during its entire three-game losing streak. The Canucks managed just two goals over that span.

The Canucks are through the first two games of a five-game road trip. The trip will continue on Friday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
