‘The Heart of Robin Hood’ extends Toronto run, delays Broadway debut

TORONTO – “The Heart of Robin Hood” is extending its run in Toronto and delaying its debut on Broadway.

Producer David Mirvish says the play has had a “great reception” in Toronto and will now run for four additional weeks in the city, through March 29.

As a result, producers “have decided not to rush in to New York this season,” he adds in a statement.

The show, which puts a new spin on the familiar fable, was to begin performances in New York on March 11 and close on Aug. 23.

That would have made the Tony Award eligibility deadline of March 29.

“The Nederlander Organization had kindly offered us an interim booking at the Marquis Theatre this summer and we now feel that ‘The Heart of Robin Hood’ would be better served by a venue where we had the potential to play longer than our limited run,” said Mirvish.

The show from playwright David Farr opened last week at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.

It was first staged at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2011.

Tickets for the additional four weeks in Toronto go on sale Jan. 26.
