Thousands of officers march to pay respects to RCMP Const. David Wynn

ST. ALBERT, Alta. (NEWS1130) – Alberta RCMP Cst. David Wynn is being remembered as a kind and generous family man who was exceedingly proud to serve as a member of the national police force.

Chaplin Cyril Gowler noted Wynn paid the ultimate sacrifice and showed the greatest love to keep his community safe.

The Rankin Family performed their song “Bells” to honour Wynn’s roots in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Wynn’s former colleagues who worked with him as a paramedic in Nova Scotia sang a song “When those Sirens are Gone,” especially written to honour first responders.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper attended the funeral along with RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson.

Before the service, a procession of 2,000 police officers made its way through the streets. It included 860 Mounties in their traditional red serge and 450 officers from the municipal police force in nearby Edmonton.

The Mounties came from as far away as Newfoundland, Iqaluit and British Columbia.

Wynn died after he and auxiliary Cst. Derek Bond were shot during a struggle with a suspected car thief at a casino in St. Albert earlier this month.
