Chilliwack and Abbotsford losing door-to-door mail delivery this fall

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – You can add Chilliwack and Abbotsford to the list of places that will see door-to-door mail delivery cut this fall.

Peter Butcher with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says apart from people losing their jobs, this will be a big inconvenience.

“The Post Office is only open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you work out of town, how are you going to get your mail? I mean, they’re not extending the hours and they’re taking their sweet time fixing the boxes.”

Charisma Vere with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says despite what Canada Post claims, the new community mail boxes are not very secure. “The theft rate of the CMBs is huge for this entire area from Maple Ridge, across to Surrey and into Chilliwack.”

Parts of Delta will also be shifting to community mail boxes this fall.
