Truck bursts into flames on Highway 99, killing driver

By

DELTA (NEWS1130) – A trucker has died in a fiery crash on Highway 99 just after Highway 17A.

RCMP say a gravel truck pulling a trailer was traveling south this morning during rush hour and crashed into a median. It landed on its side in a northbound lane and burst into flames, damaging two vehicles. Both drivers of those vehicles had to be taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Cst. Mike Moore says drivers who saw the crash rushed to help the truck driver. “There were several motorists that risked their lives to try and remove this individual from the truck and they were unsuccessful. You know, it just goes to be said that there’s people out there that are willing to risk their lives for a total stranger.”

Southbound lanes of Highway 99 remain closed. Northbound traffic is getting through at Highway 91.
