Vancouver Taxi Assn blames Uber for drop in value of cab licences

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It isn’t even operating in town yet, but the Vancouver Taxi Association is blaming Uber for a drop in the value of cab licenses.

Carolyn Bauer with the association claims nearly 600 licences have been affected.

She tells the Province newspaper they used to be worth about $800,000, but that has changed since Uber made it known it wanted to come back to Vancouver last fall.

She isn’t saying how much they’re worth now.

It’s been a fight since the ride-sharing service made it known it wanted to return, with the cab companies suing Uber and the City delaying any decision about it until this spring.

The association also wants cab companies from the suburbs out of Vancouver on weekends; that fight has been through the courts.

You can read more about this in today’s Province newspaper.
