Canucks fall short in Calgary

CALGARY, AB (NEWS1130) – Lance Bouma scored the game-winning goal early in the third period as the Calgary Flames beat the Canucks for the second straight time with a 3-2 decision. Ronalds Kenins and Linden Vey scored for Vancouver.

The Canucks opened the scoring against the flow of play, as Kenins broke in down the left wing and beat Karri Ramo with a quick snapshot. The goal was the third of the season for the Latvian rookie. Bo Horvat and Jannik Hansen drew assists.

Calgary took its first lead of the night in the second period thanks to two goals from Sean Monahan. The first goal came at the 6:48 mark of the middle frame. Monahan was able to poke home a loose puck just as the Canucks’ net was coming off its pegs. The goal was reviewed but was ultimately upheld.

Monahan then made it 2-1 for Calgary as he was set-up in the slot by Jiri Hudler for his 19th goal of the season.

The Canucks tied it a little before the intermission. Linden Vey set-up Chris Higgins on a two-on-one, and while Higgins was stopped, Vey was there to bury the rebound for his ninth goal of the season.

Calgary took the lead for good just 1:41 into the third period. David Jones fed a nice pass into the middle for Bouma and he made no mistake, beating Ryan Miller for the game-winner.

Vancouver had to play the second half of the game with only five defenseman. Alex Edler left the game with an upper-body injury and did not return.

The Canucks had their winning streak snapped at two games. They’ll try to begin a new streak on Monday when they host the Minnesota Wild.
