Drew and Jonathan Scott tackle largest reno yet in ‘Property Brothers at Home’

By

TORONTO – Jonathan and Drew Scott have been buying and renovating properties together for over a decade, even before they launched their runaway hit show “Property Brothers.”

So how do the identical twins from Vancouver still get along, while spending so much time together?

“Help me,” Drew mouths to the camera during a recent interview in Toronto.

The wise-cracking pair says one reason their show has become so successful is that everyone can relate to their sibling banter and occasional disagreements. And in their new miniseries, “Property Brothers at Home,” they test the limits of brotherly love even further, with their largest renovation project yet.

Premiering Tuesday on W Network, “Property Brothers at Home” is a four-episode series in which the brothers tackle a complete overhaul of their shared 5,000 square foot Las Vegas home. They have five months to complete the project before they host a massive Scott family reunion.

“‘Property Brothers at Home’ is exactly what our fans have been asking for, that sneak peek into our lives,” says Drew.

The brothers have owned individual properties in Las Vegas for years, as they say their dollars stretch a lot further in the Nevada city than in Vancouver or Toronto. They sold those properties before buying their shared home with the goal of transforming it into an expansive family hub.

“This house gave us a half-acre lot to do whatever we wanted to it,” says Drew. “And (Jonathan) did — a commercial grade waterslide.”

In addition to the two-storey waterslide, the brothers also installed a basketball court, putting green, movie theatre, hot tub and pool in the backyard. They also made the house a “smart home,” so the brothers can turn on the waterslide or TV from their phones.

“Our older brother has been partying at the house,” says Drew. “The security system sends us snapshots of who’s at the house, so we see him partying in the pool with his friends. Sneaky, sneaky, J.D.”

Drew is a real estate expert who scouts and negotiates fixer-upper homes on “Property Brothers,” while Jonathan is a licensed contractor who handles the renovations. The brothers say an important part of the new miniseries is that the cameras keep rolling even when something goes wrong.

“We definitely disagreed on some things. I typically carry heavier power tools, so I win the disagreements,” jokes Jonathan.

Drew adds they also took suggestions from their family, since their parents, older brother and extended family would also be spending time in the home.

“We asked them questions without them knowing why we were asking questions, and then we put certain aspects that would appeal to our family into the home,” he says.

“We always have varying opinions, but in the end, we always come together. The design for the home is beautiful.”
