Canucks return home to face the Blues

(NEWS1130) VANCOUVER – A crazy stretch of 16 games in 31 days kicks off for the Vancouver Canucks tonight against the St.Louis Blues at Rogers Arena. (6:30pm, SNET)

Vancouver should be well rested, having not played since Thursday in Buffalo, while the Blues took down the Oilers 2-1 in Edmonton on Saturday night.

Eddie Lack will make his third straight start in goal for the Canucks. His last start was a 6-3 loss in Buffalo where a tired, beaten up defensive core let him down a little in the third period.

“I think it was fatigue catching up to us a little bit. We’ve been home for a bit now, so we’ve got some energy back. Hopefully we’re able to bounce back.” Lack said after the morning skate Sunday.

Vancouver still waits for the rest of the cavalry to arrive with the NHL trade deadline coming on Monday. It’s hopeful that Alex Edler will practice fully with the team on Monday. He hasn’t played in two weeks, while Chris Tanev, Brad Richardson, Kevin Bieksa, and Alex Burrows all remain out with injuries.

The Canucks won the only other meeting this season between the two, 4-1 back in October. Bo Horvat didn’t take part in that game, but knows what to expect from one of the western conference’s best.

“They’re a big, physical team that plays well defensively. I think if we can counter that, get physical, and cycle pucks down low on their defense, I think we can have success tonight.”

The Canucks sit three points clear of both the LA Kings and Calgary Flames for second place in the pacific division. LA does play Sunday afternoon in Winnipeg.

The Blues are finishing up a back to back situation, having won 2-1 in Edmonton over the Oilers on Saturday.
