Does more need to be done to keep Vancouver’s Robson Park clean?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Does more need to be done to keep crime out of a park and playground in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood? A man who lives nearby says yes, and he’s gone to the Park Board.

Jeeva DelRaj claims there are needles at Robson Park on Kingsway near St. George Street.

He thinks the conversion of the nearby Biltmore Hotel into social housing has something to do with it — he doesn’t blame the residents there, he thinks others are being attracted to the area.

“I want to have an interactive solution that is signed off by the neighbourhood,” he says.

The Park Board says it’s heard his concerns and will be looking at whether any changes should be made to lighting and shrubbery. “The rangers have been there daily since we heard about this and been doing sweeps, our park rangers, and then checking out and talking to people,” explains Director of Parks Bill Harding.

He says they’ll be working with Vancouver Coastal Health and Vancouver Police.

DelRaj says it’s a start but not enough, he wants to see a meeting that includes residents, and anyone else who may have a vested interest.
