Canucks playoff push continues against the San Jose Sharks

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It is a big Pacific Division clash tonight at Rogers Arena between the Canucks and San Jose Sharks. Vancouver would like to extend its five point lead on the California club. Recently recalled goalie, Jacob Markstrom will make his first NHL start of the season in the Vancouver net.

“I feel very relaxed and confident on the ice so I can’t wait to get out there,” says the Swedish netminder, “It is going to be fun. I have been waiting for a while. It is great to get the confidence from the coaches and the players to put me in there.”

Alex Edler remains sidelined, so the team recalled Frank Corrado and he will play tonight. It will be his first game since February 1st, but Corrado says there won’t be any rust.

“The injury bug sucks. It always comes when you don’t want it to come. At the time, all you can control is how you heal and how you come back from it. To get a chance to play is another opportunity, so it is a great feeling.”

The Canucks are hoping the Sharks will be a little fatigued for their match up. San Jose topped the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 in California last night.

In three meetings this season, the Canucks won the first two games against San Jose, but were flat in a 5-1 loss to the Sharks on February 5th.

Before the game, the Canucks will honor NBA All-Star Steve Nash and he will take part in a ceremonial puck drop.

The opening face off is at 7 p.m.. You can watch it on Sportsnet Pacific. Listen for game updates every 10 minutes on the fives.
