Canucks and Kings clash in Pacific Division showdown

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It is a big game for the Canucks tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings are trying to crawl their way back in to the playoff picture, and Vancouver is attempting to solidify its playoff positioning.

The Canucks have had little success against their California rivals this season, dropping both games to LA. Eddie Lack gets the start in net this evening looking for his third straight victory and he knows it will be a tough game.

“They are a really good group and they shoot a lot. We watched video this morning and saw they are outshooting their opponents every game. It is something to be aware of and expect.”

The fears of Vancouver’s demise being tied to the Ryan Miller injury have been eased with the stellar play of Lack. Shawn Matthias says his goalie has been great

“Eddie has been playing great for us. We have a resilient group. We have played well and battled back and had some big wins against some really tough teams. We just have to keep it going. There is 16 games left, and we want to be in the playoffs. Tonight is going to be a good matchup.”

The Canucks play the Kings three more times this season, so Nick Bonino wants to set the tone tonight.

“The games with the four teams around us are always going to be huge. The Kings have a 2-0 lead and we would like to win the season series. It starts tonight and we will take it one game at a time.”

There is only one lineup change expected for the Canucks. Ronalds Kenins will line up with Bo Horvat and Jannik Hansen. He takes the spot of Brandon McMillan.

Dan Hamhuis will be playing in his 800th NHL game.

The puck drops at 7 p.m.. You can watch it on Sportsnet Pacific. Listen for game updates every 10 minutes on the fives.
