Whistler man to smash world vertical skiing record

By

WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – It takes commitment to hit the mountain everyday for eight hours, rain, snow or shine.

Pierre Jette has until November to break the record of 4.1-million feet, but says he’s way ahead of schedule and will smash the record today.

As he’s been skiing he’s collected over $6,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, a cause that’s close to his heart.

“This idea came after losing an aunt to the disease and also one uncle who is is living with the disease right now. it was my way to reach out to my family back east,” he explains. “With the ski conditions we’ve had, it allowed me to ski faster so I have been averaging 50 thousand feet of vertical a day.”

He says he’s been skiing about 25 runs a day, going from dawn to dusk, maxing out with 37 a few weeks ago.
