BC’s ‘Scrap-It’ program offering $3,000 rebate to trade in for a new electric car

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s getting more attractive for you to get that old junker off the road.

The BC “Scrap-It” program is offering a $3,000 rebate when you trade in your ride for a new electric vehicle.

CEO Dennis Rogoza says cars from the 2000 model year and older are eligible — with a catch:

“You have to demonstrate to us that you’ve owned the vehicle, have been fully operating it, and [it has been] licenced on the road for the last six months. How you evidence that is… contact ICBC. ICBC confirms that directly with us.”

Rogoza says electric cars are becoming increasingly affordable.

“They’re becoming more economical. There’s more product selection… and they get a more competitive price point, as well. I mean, some are more expensive. But some are becoming very competitive.”

“Scrap-It” is also giving you a chance to win a brand-new, 100 per cent electric Nissan Leaf, which will be on display at the Vancouver International Auto Show later this month.
