Canucks continue the weekend in Arizona

GLENDALE,ARZ (NEWS1130) – A strong finish to an already solid weekend is in play for the Vancouver Canucks, as they visit the Coyotes in Glendale, Arizona Sunday evening. (5pm, CityTV)

Vancouver put forth its best road effort of the season on Saturday, shutting down the defending champion Kings by a 4-1 score. Saturday’s victory leaves the Canucks four points clear of Los Angeles, and two up on the Calgary Flames.

The Coyotes have entered the rebuild phase and are playing out the string. They trail the Canucks by 36 points in the standings, but Vancouver must be wary – they were lucky to salvage a point out of the last game in Arizona, a 3-2 shootout loss on March 5th.

Jacob Markstrom will make his second start of the season for the Canucks. Markstrom saw some mop-up duty in the loss to Columbus on March 19th, and was pulled after allowing three goals on four shots to the Sharks on March 3rd. Eddie Lack takes a seat after a strong performance Saturday in LA. Willie Dejardins had said that Markstrom would play in Arizona regardless of the outcome with the Kings.

The Canucks also learned that Kings forward Tyler Toffoli will not face any extra discipline from the league for his dangerous hit on Alex Burrows. Burrows returned to the game for only one shift after that hit, and it remains to be seen if he will face the Coyotes. The Canucks are already without Zack Kassian and Brad Richardson, who are not on the trip. Toffoli did recieve a game misconduct on the play.

After Sunday, the Canucks will return home to face the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday at Rogers Arena.
